Couples Therapy Services

Couples in distress enter therapy holding two goals that they now experience as mutually exclusive:

to feel loved and to feel understood.

Online Couples Counselling Across Ontario

You and your partner have been struggling to rekindle the feelings you had at the beginning of your relationship. You feel tired and overwhelmed, and you’ve re-hashed the same fight more times than you can count. There are a few hot-button issues, like finances, time management, sex, the children, running the household, or betrayal that keep tripping the two of you up. There may also be past hurts that keep coming up and derailing your ability to solve new problems as they arise.

Whatever brings you into therapy, you know that the arguing and withdrawing can’t continue.

You need to break free of the pattern you’re stuck in and learn new ways to communicate and come back together again. In couples therapy I support you to feel safe again and to reestablish intimacy. I support you to reconnect with your essential needs, change your conversations, and learn to make requests that invite rather than threaten in order to get those needs met.

Throughout the course of therapy, you can expect that you will have a chance to share all of your worries and concerns. We will focus on building self-awareness, improving communication skills, sharing needs, reconnecting emotionally, and resolving the conflicts that brought you here. You will learn how to break the negative cycle of conflict, listen deeply to address difficult emotions, and restore healthy communication.

Ultimately, you will rebuild a foundation of trust and safety so that you can experience the relationship you’ve been longing for.

In couples therapy I use a systemic approach to heal, improve, and provide relationship help called Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) developed by Tony Herbine-Blank. The IFIO method combines deep intrapsychic work along with interpersonal exploration. My training in IFIO includes IFIO basic training (72 hours) that is an experiential model of couple’s therapy that draws primarily from Internal Family Systems (IFS) developed by Richard Schwartz. The model includes aspects of psychodynamic theory, systems thinking, neuroscience and mindfulness practices. I also completed advanced training (36 hours) on Brain, Shame, and Reactivity. The training was focused on deepening the concepts and protocols addressed in the Basic program and an in-depth look at the insidious impact of shame on intimate relationships.

Intimacy From The Inside Out (IFIO)

Intimacy From The Inside Out (IFIO) therapy is a transformative approach to counseling that focuses on fostering deep, authentic connections within oneself and with others. This therapeutic method delves into the exploration of personal emotions, vulnerabilities, and attachment patterns, helping individuals gain a better understanding of their internal world. Through this introspective journey, clients can improve their capacity for intimacy, communication, and emotional regulation, ultimately enhancing their relationships. IFIO therapy benefits include increased self-awareness, enhanced empathy, improved interpersonal connections, and a greater capacity for emotional intimacy, leading to more fulfilling and meaningful relationships. This therapeutic approach empowers couples to break down emotional barriers and develop healthier, more authentic bonds with each other.

I look forward to supporting you!
